10 Practical Gift Ideas for Minimalist Moms That Won’t Be Re-gifted

Finding the perfect gift for someone is not easy, especially if the person receiving the gift seem to be really practical about everything. I know I’ve struggled with this. Let’s be honest, I’m sure all of us have given thoughtless gifts to someone because it’s normal to do so.

Clothes. Scarves. Shoes. Purses. These are just a few examples of the gifts that I’ve received over the years but they are just collecting dust in my closet at this point. They were just not my style and I simply don’t have any use for them.

Instead of giving someone a gift that no one really wants but just because it was on sale, why not gift something practical? It not only adds meaning to their lives, but it will reduce clutter in their homes!

For a minimalist mom, what she really wants are meaningful gifts like the gift of time, gift of experience or something useful that she will use. Otherwise, don’t be offended if you see your gift being resold on Facebook Marketplace, or it might even be regifted.

Based on my experience as a mom, here is a list of things that would make great gifts for a practical and minimalist mom, either for mother’s day or mom’s birthday.

1. Gift cards

You won’t go wrong with this, especially if it’s a gift card to a store with lots of options. Think Amazon, Target, or even the local Wegmans grocery store. A gift card gives her the option to buy things that she truly needs or wants.

2. A babysitter for the day

As a mom of 2, I know I would love this gift. Don’t get me wrong, I love my daughters, but sometimes I just need some time away from my kids to enjoy some quiet time, or just simply catch up on errands that I’ve been meaning to get to.

If you can arrange for a babysitter (preferably someone whom the kids are comfortable with) for the day, I know all moms will be super grateful for this!

3. Cleaning Services

This would be considered the gift of time. Moms are usually so busy and under a lot of pressure that they rarely get a chance to deep-clean their house. So yes, yes yes! As a full-time working mom, I know I would appreciate this gift. I go to work during the day, and I’m off to daycare to pickup the kids in the afternoon, and then it’s just one thing after another to take care of the kids. We rarely have anytime to keep the house clean. Gifting a few hours of cleaning services to a mom is a great idea!

4. A smartphone lens kit

Mom loves taking pictures of her babies and kids. I know I do. I want to capture every single moment of my kids’ lives. From their first steps, to their first boo-boo, and then their first day of school.

Since we always carry our phones with us, it has also doubled up as our trusty camera. Why not gift a mom a smartphone lens kit? It provides professional camera quality without the need to carry around a big camera like a DSLR. For less than $50, it comes with a wide angle lens, macro lens, quick-release lanyard, travel case, easyclip with rechargeable LED fill light, and cleaning cloth to wipe away the dust and finger print smudges. It also comes with a lifetime warranty! Best of all, it is compatible with all smartphones, so you don’t have to worry if this will fit mom’s phone.

5. An acupressure and pillow mat set

I am obsessed with this! I bought this a while back to help with my backaches just from working all day. I use this before bedtime to help with relaxation and the pain. It has made such a big difference especially in the neck area. I am now able to fall asleep with so much ease.

As moms, we are usually so busy and we don’t have time for the spa for a massage. This acupressure and pillow mat set gives one the experience that is spa-like without having to physically drive there. I’m sure all moms out there will appreciate this gift to help reduce the built-up stress.

6. A memory foam seat cushion

This will transform an uncomfortable chair into something that moms can sit on for hours to do some work. This is especially useful for a working mom who works from home, and is required to sit in front of a computer all day long.

With over 85,000 ratings, this memory foam seat cushion fits all type of seating, so you don’t have to worry if it will fit on mom’s chair. It is made with memory form, and uses body heat to adapt to one’s curves, giving you the support that you need all day long.

7. Netflix subscription for a month or two

Who doesn’t love Netflix? It is the perfect gift for moms so that they can binge on their favorite movie or shows once in a while.

Busy moms don’t like to make the commitment to a long-term subscription, so this short-term subscription is perfect. They can just activate it when they are ready to try it out.

8. Event tickets

This gift of experience will be a nice gesture for mom. Does she enjoy a concert, sports or Broadway shows? Consider getting a ticket to an event so that mom can enjoy a night away from the kids and indulge in an enjoyable experience.

9. Meal subscription with ready-cooked meals, or a professional chef for a day

I cook all my meals for my family because I want to make sure that my kids are well-fed. However, there are some days when I just don’t have the energy to whip up anything. On days like that, I would love for someone to come into my home to cook my family a meal. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but an elaborate would be a plus. Alternatively, have ready-cooked meals delivered to mom’s house will also be a nice gift.

10. Instant Pot pressure cooker

This 7 in 1 kitchen gadget can function as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker, steamer, saute pan and a food warmer.

Instead of buying 7 separate gadgets for mom, all you need is this one pressure cooker. It takes up less space on the kitchen counter, and it is so easy to clean up as well.

The best thing of all, it cooks up to 70% faster than traditional cooking methods. For example, it cooks frozen chicken in just 20 minutes. No thawing needed. What a game changer!
